Bolt Replacement

Resources:

There are many publicly available free resources on replacing old, inadequate or unsafe bolts. Many of these resources can be found on Mountain Project and YouTube. Clicking below will bring you to a list of many of these resources, including plans to build low cost pullers, strategies to remove many bolts, and organizations leading the way with anchor replacement.

Pullers:

Over the years, tools to pull old bolts have become much better, and there are options to build your own, or buy custom made tools. Ballscrew based pullers seem to be the most effective at pulling bolts without breaking them. Older styles using a machine bolt can be cost effective, but have a higher likelihood of breaking bolts, and are less efficient. Click learn more for information on and links to a number of pullers. Pictured is a Doodad 4.0 in use, which were designed by Greggerman from Mountain Project, which can be built for around $50.
